My Creative Projects (but not always successful!)

Mars Pathfinder robotic model

This was a balsa-wood Radio Controlled model with a few interesting features. I made it in November 1997 when the Mars Pathfinder was to me the most fascinating thing not on earth. It was made basically to be presented at the Parents Day 1997, Cadet College Hasanabdal, but after that I modified it and gave a presentation on the same at PakBase Buraq, Dec.1997 and demonstrated the model. All the pictures here are of the older model, presented at CCH on the AeroSpace Modelling Club Stall. A few of the nifty gadgets onboard include:

A Voltage Variation Circuit that maintains the high torque of the motors at low gear speeds by decreasing their duty cycles. My Pakistan Studies Professor, Mr. Arshad, who is also the Incharge Electronics Club at Cadet College Hasanabdal, made it and I give all the credit for the traction system to him.

Control is handled by a 4-channel 'HITEC Focus4 FM' Model Aircraft R/C system. While making the model, I realized that I needed just 2 of the 4 available channels i.e. direction and throttle, so I cannibalized the two remaining control servos and converted them into high torque drive motors! That was an interesting and challenging aspect of this project and anybody else with the stomach to risk a few servos should contact me (yes, they can be converted back)

It includes my own version of the Pathfinder's 'Rocker-Bogey' suspension system that works fairly.

Those interested may contact me for the plans and/or any questions may also be addressed to me.

MagicWords.

Magicwords is my latest and current project. It's a Voice Recognition Program that I am making in Visual Basic 5.0. The purpose of taking all the trouble of making one and not buying one off the shelf is that I want to do some research on User Interfaces and how I can make a program with a better UI than your typical clunky Program. As this is my current project, it has a separate page with much detailed information.

This program uses Microsoft Agent Technology.

Personal Interests

My Interests include Animals, Technology and Music

Amongst animals, my special weaknesses are dogs and horses.

My favorite animal, my dog Scrappy(pic 10.8K) died in August 1998 after being with me for six years. I learnt to love horses in Cadet College Hasanabdal, where they have excellent stables(pic 9.6K).

I may be truthfully described as a TechnoJunky and I pride myself in that.
